Naismith was trying to create a new game to engage his students during the winter months and came up with the idea for basketball while teaching at the International YMCA Training School in Springfield, Massachusetts.

Naismith wrote the first set of rules for the game, which included the use of a soccer ball and two peach baskets as goals. The first official game of basketball was played on December 21, 1891, and it ended with a score of 1-0.

The sport quickly gained popularity in the United States and soon spread to other countries. In 1936, basketball was included in the Olympics for the first time and it has been a part of the Olympics ever since. In 1949, the National Basketball Association (NBA) was founded in the United States, which became the premier professional league for the sport.

In 1857, the National Association of Base Ball Players was formed, which was the first organized baseball league. The league was replaced by the National League of Professional Baseball Clubs in 1876. The American League, another major league, was formed in 1901 and the two leagues, the National League and the American League, were the only major leagues until 1969 when the MLB expanded to include teams from Canada and other countries.

The game was played with the hand rather than a racket, and the ball was made of leather and filled with wool or feathers.

In the 16th century, the racket was introduced, and the game began to resemble the tennis we know today. The first official tennis tournament, called the "All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club," was held in 1877. The tournament, now known as Wimbledon, is one of the four Grand Slam tournaments and is still held annually in London, England.

Boxing, also known as prizefighting, is a combat sport in which two people engage in a contest of strength, speed, reflexes, endurance, and will, by throwing punches with gloved hands against each other. The origins of boxing can be traced back to ancient civilizations, including Greece and Rome, where it was a popular form of entertainment.

The modern sport of boxing, as we know it today, developed in the 18th and 19th centuries in England. The first recorded boxing match took place in 1681 in London and it was fought under bare-knuckle rules. The London Prize Ring Rules, established in 1838, were the first set of rules for the sport of boxing and it was the first time that gloves were used.

In the late 19th century, the Marquess of Queensberry rules were established, which became the standard for the sport. These rules included the use of gloves, a limit on the number of rounds, and the introduction of weight classes.

In the 20th century, the sport of boxing gained widespread popularity and professional boxing became a major global industry. The International Boxing Hall of Fame was established in 1989, which honors boxers, trainers, and other contributors to the sport of boxing.

Today, boxing is governed by various organizations worldwide, such as the World Boxing Association (WBA), World Boxing Council (WBC), International Boxing Federation (IBF) and World Boxing Organization (WBO). These organizations have their own champions in different weight divisions and also have their own ranking systems for boxers.
